My first book was handwritten on a single sheet of printer paper—and was a complete knock off of Elizabeth Lindsay’s Magic Pony series. My second book was slightly longer, three sheets of paper, and a behind-the-scenes breakdown of Harry Potter characters.
Over the years, many, many more books have been started: fantasy epics, romance novels, teen adventures, and children’s picture books. Today, I am delighted to announce I will soon see one published.Â
I recently signed with Nimbus Publishing to write Canada’s Endangered Animals, a juvenile non-fiction book focused on—you guessed it—endangered animals in Canada.Â
Over the next few months, I will be diving into the lives of animals like the Northern Spotted Owl, the GaspĂ©sie-Atlantic Caribou, the Five-Lined Skink, and the Oregon Spotted Frog. I’ll be interviewing scientists who have studied these animals for years, and looking through government reports and recovery strategies for each species.Â
I’m so excited to have this opportunity to use my journalism skills in a new way, and to ultimately make a book that is both kid-friendly and full of facts.
Canada’s Endangered Animals is set to be released in Spring 2026 by Nimbus Publishing, a publisher I have admired since my university days in Halifax. Although I’m responsible for getting the manuscript done, they’ll be instrumental in finding an illustrator, crafting the perfect title, and making sure the physical book actually makes it into warehouses across Canada.Â
I won’t say much more now, since I have to get cracking on writing the book. But! If you want to follow along with me through the process, you can become a subscriber below. I’ll be sharing my thoughts on the book each month, offering behind the scenes looks at interviews, research, editing, and more. Subscribers will also be the first to get information on books launches, events, and more.
